Baskets

Bamboo baskets have been hand made by artisans in the region of Calabria, Southern Italy for generations. Each basket takes 1 day to weave and make. Pieces of bamboo is handpicked to ensure proper size, texture and strength. The art of making these intricate baskets is gradually dying out as very few craftsmen and women with the skills to maintain this tradition are left. There are sadly just two places left in Calabria where these original gnocchi baskets are made: Soriano Calabro in the Serre Mountains and Belmonte, a little town on the Tyrrhenian coast.
