Make gnocchi at home that looks exactly like Nonna has done for years with this hidden gem. Gnocchi baskets have been used for generations and have a multipurpose. Used to make light and fluffy gnocchi, hold and dry pasta, serve fresh bread or hang on your wall until you need to use it again.
Our Calabrian gnocchi basket ('u crivu' in Calabrian dialect) is used for making the ridges in your potato gnocchi to give them that authentic look and texture. Then it is left in the basket to dry or use right away in your favorite sauce.
This circular wicker basket has been hand made by an artisan in the region of Calabria, Southern Italy. Each basket takes 1 day to weave and make. Pieces of bamboo is handpicked to ensure proper size, texture and strength. The art of making these intricate baskets is gradually dying out as very few craftsmen and women with the skills to maintain this tradition are left. There are sadly just two places left in Calabria where these original gnocchi baskets are made: Soriano Calabro in the Serre Mountains and Belmonte, a little town on the Tyrrhenian coast.
